Swim Gear
Mandatory items:
- Practice suit
This will be used for practices and should NOT be the team suit. This helps the suit maintain its form and color with little stretching or dilution of color.
- Team suit
These can be found at the D&J Sports swim shop in Lewisburg. Purchase required! The team suit is meant for swim meets and championships and represents our team. Respect to the suits is recommended; they can last quite a few years and can be downgraded to practice suits if in good condition when new team suits are announced.
- Towels (2 are recommended)
Sometimes these mornings can be chilly, meaning the temperature of the water can be quite cold. Our younger swimmers (and others showing signs of blue lips) are offered the opportunity for a 10 minute warm up break to wrap themselves in a towel and sit on the nearby bench (these swimmers will return to the pool after 10 minutes). Should swimmers show no signs of warmth after two breaks, they will be allowed to exit the pool no more than 30 minutes early to get dressed.
- Goggles
Two sets of googles is suggested in case a pair goes missing/breaks. Swimmers are expected to be able to put their heads underwater. Swimmers need to see the bottom of the pool to know when the wall is approaching. Swimmers are not recommended to continually open their eyes under water which can cause eye sensitivity and redness.
- Swim caps
Swimmers, especially those with long hair, are required to wear swim caps to maintain body heat and reduce drag while swimming. Swim caps are known to help the body stay warm by keeping the scalp relatively dry and slows the cold feeling swimmers have, especially when paired with constant movement. These caps are also helpful to reduce drag and lower swim times in meets.
Optional items:
- Swim bag:
Swim bags can be bought online or at the D&J Sports swim store located in Lewisburg. These bags can hold a lot of items and when treated well, last many years.
- Water bottle
Swimmers are exercising and need to stay hydrated! Reusable water bottles are an awesome way to help swimmers stay hydrated while reducing plastic waste in our community. Reusable isn't required, just recommended.
- Drag suits
Drag suits are for PRACTICES ONLY should swimmers choose to try these out. Swimmers pick out a drag suit that they wear over their practice suit that creates drag. This slows swimmers down and requires more energy and muscle to go faster while swimming; when drag suits are removed for meets, swimmers find themselves much faster!
- Equipment
The team provides pull buoys and kick boards for the team to use for practice. It is optional for swimmers to have their own equipment such as; pull buoys, hand paddles, kick boards, and fins. Pull buoys and kick boards are primarily used during practices; should a swimmer bring paddles or fins, adjustments to the practice can be made to allow these swimmers to use their equipment.
